No, I'm not saying give the authors as gifts. They won't fit in your online shopping cart anyway. But authors DO make great #GEEK (== "gaining ever-expanding knowledge") gifts.
If it's on this list, I recommend it with my heart. Although! There are a couple I have yet to read. In those cases I am going by my personal interest in the author(s). They've never let me down, and they won't you either.
Fiction
- Jay Asher | Thirteen Reasons Why | book page | When Hannah committed suicide, she left behind cassette tapes explaining why, including the roles various people played.
- Suzanne Collins | The Hunger Games trilogy (The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay) | books page (Collins reads the first chapter of Mockingjay here) | A tournament of teenagers, in which only one can come out alive, lights the match of society's revolt.
- Neil Gaiman (& Dave McKean) | The Graveyard Book | book page (in which Gaiman is recorded reading the entire work by chapter) | Nobody Owens is raised in a graveyard, by ghosts.
- Carolyn Mackler (w/Asher) | The Future of Us | author page | Emma and Josh join AOL in 1996, and when they log on they find themselves on Facebook... today.
- Christopher Moore | Lamb | author page | The account of the travels of Jesus, as he searches for the final fate of the Three Wise Men, with his best friend, Levi Who Is Called Biff.
- Christopher Moore | The Stupidest Angel | author page A tale of Christmas carols, reanimated corpses, a sword-bearing B-movie warrior babe, IKEA and an angel who botched up his mission from God.
- Neal Stephenson | Reamde | book page | This thriller involves a virus that holds your files for ransom. And takes place throughout the whole world, as intrigue should.
Non-fiction
- Josh Becker | Rushes | book page | Behind the scenes of low-budget movies. Lots of Bruce Campbell. :-)
- Jim Ottaviani (& Leland Myrick) | Feynman | author page | A graphic novel account of the adventures of scientist Richard Feynman. Marvel as he safe-cracks the Manhattan Project!
- Brian Solis | Engage! | author page Each social media platform has its own culture. Some will aid you better than others, in reaching out to customers.
A very happy holiday to you.
