I see six things we have to understand about ourselves before we can effectively market ourselves. These answers define us; they also define our relationships with our customers. And they are more fundamental even than the celebrated Four Ps of Marketing, because they are based on a self-knowledge that even MIT assumes we have, when many of us, well, don't.
- We must know what makes us GREAT.
- What do we do, better than anyone else can?
- What do we do, that brings us joy and makes us feel we’re born to it?
- What do we do, that others will acknowledge we do well?
- We must find the people with that NEED.
- How are they going to BE found?
- How will they be made to respond?
- We must PACKAGE our greatness for their need.
- We must DELIVER that package.
- We must PRICE this package properly.
- We must make the whole process as SIMPLE as possible.
In short, if we want to prepare to market our products and services, we have to first have strong self-knowledge. For years, I just drifted along, not knowing myself - and my ability to market reflected this. Now I do know myself, and I am getting ready to get noticed. I can see it so clearly now. Can you see yourself?
