Possibly your first business Web site?

For many, Wordpress is the platform of choice for blogging. Wordpress is, however, also a reasonably simple and quick development platform for those who wish to create a business Web site from scratch, and who lack experience in coding tools such as HTML and PHP. In this course, participants will create such a site from scratch, and will take the most important first steps toward customizing it.

There are several prerequisites that must be fulfilled if you are to participate:

• You need a registered domain name and hosting secured for your site. These are often inexpensive, though choosing an available domain name MAY prove to be time-consuming, and you often may find both through the same provider. You can’t create your site without a domain and a host! So have that info with you when you arrive for the course, or be able to secure it within an hour, or your tuition will go to waste.
• You’ll need some basic text and images that describe your site’s purpose. These will be used for examining different positions on the screen.
• You’ll need a color scheme.

Together, we will examine various themes (which contain site formats) for Wordpress sites that you can choose from. You will install the theme of your choice, customize it somewhat with text and images, apply Wordpress Widgets if you need to, and if everything goes well, you may have your site ready to release by the end of the course!

• This course can be delivered in five hours.
• It is currently available LIVE only in NE Ohio and Central NJ, unless your organization is willing to pay for presenter's travel. It is also available over the Internet.
• This course can be customized according to the needs of your institution.
• There is no textbook, but many readings will be recommended.
